SMS Consent & TCPA Policy
Effective Date: April 15, 2026
Last Updated: April 15, 2026
LeagueIntel uses SMS (text messaging) as a core communication channel for team coordination. This policy explains how we obtain consent, what messages we send, and your rights under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and related laws.
1. How We Obtain Consent
1.1 Direct Opt-In (Players Who Create Accounts)
When you create a LeagueIntel account and provide your phone number, you are presented with a clear SMS consent disclosure before your number is enrolled. The consent screen states:
By providing your phone number, you consent to receiving text messages from LeagueIntel related to match availability, lineup confirmations, match-day reminders, and team notifications. Message frequency varies (typically 2-5 per match week). Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time. Reply HELP for assistance. See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
You must affirmatively check the consent box and complete registration to receive SMS messages. Consent is not pre-checked.
1.2 Captain-Initiated Addition
When a team captain adds a player to a roster, the player receives an initial opt-in text message:
LeagueIntel: [Captain Name] added you to [Team Name]. Reply YES to receive match availability texts, or NO to opt out. Msg&data rates apply. STOP to cancel anytime.
Players must reply YES to this message before they receive any further communications. Players who reply NO or do not respond are not enrolled in SMS and must be managed manually by the captain.
1.3 Written Records
We maintain records of all SMS consent events, including the timestamp, phone number, method of consent (web opt-in or SMS reply), and the specific consent language presented. These records are retained for a minimum of 5 years.
2. Types of Messages We Send
All messages from LeagueIntel are transactional (related to your participation in team activities). We categorize them as:
| Message Type | When Sent | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Availability Request | Week before a match | “Can you play Sat 2:30 vs Peninsula (HOME)? Reply Y, N, or M” |
| Monday Confirmation | Monday evening before match week | “You’re IN for Sat. Still good? Reply Y to confirm or N to change.” |
| Lineup Notification | Tuesday (lineup published) | “You’re playing this Saturday at Peninsula. Arrive by 2:15.” |
| Not Playing (courtesy) | Tuesday (lineup published) | “You won’t be in the lineup this week. Thanks for being available!” |
| Match-Day Reminder | 2 hours before match | “Match at 2:30 today at Peninsula. Reply HERE when you arrive.” |
| Account Verification | During login/signup | “Your LeagueIntel verification code is 847291” |
We do not send marketing, promotional, or advertising messages via SMS. All SMS communications are directly related to team operations and match coordination.
3. Message Frequency
Message frequency depends on your team schedule. Typical frequency is 2-5 messages per match week during the season. During off-season periods, you may receive occasional account-related messages only (e.g., verification codes).
4. Your Rights and How to Opt Out
4.1 Opt Out
Reply STOP to any LeagueIntel text message to immediately opt out of all SMS communications. You will receive a single confirmation message and no further texts. You can also opt out through your account settings on the website or app.
Opting out of SMS does not delete your account. Your captain will still see you on the roster but will need to coordinate with you through other channels.
4.2 Opt Back In
Reply START to re-enroll in SMS communications at any time. You can also re-enable SMS through your account settings.
4.3 Help
Reply HELP to receive a message with our contact information and a summary of opt-out instructions.
4.4 Contact Us
For any questions about our SMS practices, contact us at support@leagueintel.app or call (XXX) XXX-XXXX.
5. TCPA Compliance
LeagueIntel complies with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and FCC regulations by:
- Obtaining express written consent before sending any non-exempt text messages.
- Maintaining detailed records of consent (timestamp, method, language presented).
- Honoring STOP requests immediately and within a single billing cycle.
- Including the sender’s identity (“LeagueIntel”) in all messages.
- Not sending messages before 8:00 AM or after 9:00 PM in the recipient’s local time zone.
- Registering for A2P 10DLC (Application-to-Person 10-Digit Long Code) messaging with all major carriers.
- Maintaining a Do Not Contact list and scrubbing against it before each send.
6. Carrier Responsibilities
Message and data rates may apply depending on your wireless plan. LeagueIntel is not responsible for any charges imposed by your carrier for receiving text messages. Compatible carriers include but are not limited to: AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and their MVNOs.
7. Data Protection
Phone numbers are stored encrypted in our database. SMS content is transmitted through Twilio’s encrypted infrastructure and retained for 90 days before permanent deletion. See our Data Security page and Privacy Policy for full details.
8. Changes
We may update this SMS policy as regulations evolve. Material changes will be communicated via SMS and/or email before they take effect.
